I Took A Proper Break From Recurring Tasks — Here’s What Happened

Sometimes “quality over quantity” really hits home

When I was nestled into our Torino stay for five months, I had a strict daily to-do list. Practice Italian, write, work freelance gigs, get outside, read, workout….wash, rinse, repeat. This schedule worked for me when all I could do during lockdown was order takeout and hang out with my boyfriend.

But then we went traveling for the summer. We just finished an Italian road trip, and I was more preoccupied with making the most of it and pretending like I was in “Call Me By Your Name” than I was with my daily to-do.

I took a break, and it was epic. Without the constant churn of productivity, I found something really interesting. Fun. This is the part where you roll your eyes and say, of course, you had fun! You stopped working! But I actually didn’t stop working. I just shifted my work from the daily grind of mini-tasks to focusing on one thing at a time. I got a lot done, and I had a blast.

Less Pressure
